They are elastic, so they're able to move with you as you bend and stretch. Much like tape, the strips are designed to stick around the edges of your barrier (overlapping onto your skin, like a picture frame around your barrier). Y-shape provides extra security and support in a wider strip for outward areas, such as a hernia
